Investigative Journalist Leroy Truth (aka Leonard Filipowski) Files Federal Lawsuit Against New Jersey State Senator Brian Stack and Other Officials for First Amendment Violations and Retaliation.

New Jersey – February 20, 2025 – Investigative journalist Leonard Filipowski who reports under the moniker Leroy Truth has filed a federal civil rights lawsuit against New Jersey State Senator and Judiciary Committee Chair Brian Stack, State Senator Paul Sarlo, former Governor James McGreevey, the New Jersey State Police, and officials from Union City and Jersey City for violations of his First Amendment rights, retaliation, and abuse of power.

The lawsuit, filed in the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey, details a disturbing pattern of government suppression, physical force, and harassment directed at Leroy Truth in response to his investigations into the profound amount of corruption of New Jersey State Senator, Head of The New Jersey Senate Judiciary Committee and simultaneously Union City, New Jersey Brian Stack.

The complaint, filed on March 5th, 2025 by West New York Attorney Mario M. Blanch, alleges that on February 20, 2025, during a public New Jersey State Senate Judiciary Committee hearing, chaired by Brian Stack, Leroy Truth was violently removed from his seat and dragged out of the hearing by New Jersey State Police officers at the direction of Stack for speaking at a public hearing at the judiciary hearing room in Trenton, New Jersey about New Jersey Senate proposed Bill #4142 that if passed, would redesign the election ballots for The State of New Jersey that will favor corrupt incumbent politicians.

Leroy Truth was speaking during the designated public comment period when Stack ordered state troopers to aggressively silence him WHILE he was speaking, violating his First Amendment right to free speech.

The lawsuit also details how Leroy Truth was injured during the removal and was transported to a hospital for medical treatment.

This is just one incident in a broader pattern of retaliation against Filipowski for his investigative journalism, which has been investigating over 3,000 allegations of corruption tied to Stack and his administration.

Since December 2023, Leroy Truth has been subjected to over 25 physical assaults, false criminal charges, harassment, and even arrest at the hands of officials and police officers under Stack’s influence.

The lawsuit describes how Stack has used his positions as Mayor of Union City, State Senator, and Chair of the Judiciary Committee to maintain unchecked power, retaliate against critics, and suppress dissent.

Key Allegations in the Lawsuit:
• February 20, 2025 Judiciary Hearing Suppression: Leroy Truth was forcibly removed from a public hearing while lawfully speaking during his allotted time.

• Pattern of First Amendment Suppression: Stack and his associates have repeatedly sought to silence Leroy Truth at public meetings, including the July 16, 2024 Union City Board of Commissioners meeting, where police unlawfully arrested him for refusing to comply with arbitrary speaking restrictions.

• Retaliatory Arrests and Criminal Complaints: Officials aligned with Stack have filed numerous baseless criminal complaints against Leroy Truth in an effort to intimidate him and stifle his investigations.

• Religious Freedom Violation: The lawsuit also claims that former Governor James McGreevey, along with Jersey City police officers, ordered Leroy Truth removal from a church service at Monumental Baptist Church, infringing on his First Amendment right to freely exercise his religion.

• Coordinated Conspiracy to Silence a Journalist: The lawsuit alleges that Stack, Sarlo, McGreevey, and law enforcement officials conspired to use intimidation, pretextual arrests, physical removal, and abuse of the criminal justice system to suppress Leroy Truth’s speech and reporting.

This lawsuit aims to hold them accountable.”

Filipowski, known as Leroy Truth, has been leading an independent investigation into New Jersey political corruption, especially that of New Jersey state senator in Union City, New Jersey mayor Brian Stack through his platform, Leroy Truth Investigations on both Facebook and YouTube.

His work has exposed allegations of extortion, bribery, voter intimidation, sexual assault cover-ups, and political retaliation within Stack’s administration.

Despite over 3,000 allegations of corruption, Stack has continued to wield his power unchecked, using his influence over local law enforcement, judicial appointments, and state resources to shield himself and his allies from accountability.

The lawsuit argues that Stack’s tyrannical grip on power violates core democratic principles and endangers the rights of all citizens who seek to expose corruption.

Leroy Truth’s lawsuit demands:

1. A declaration that the Defendants violated his constitutional rights.
2. An injunction preventing further government suppression of his speech and investigative work.
3. Compensatory and punitive damages against the individuals responsible.
4. Attorneys’ fees and any additional relief deemed just and proper by the court.
