PBA No Confidence Vote for Union City Police Chief Anthony Facchini

The Union City Police Department’s Policemen’s Benevolent Association (PBA) Local 8 has called for a no-confidence vote against Chief of Police Anthony Facchini, highlighting escalating internal discord within the department. While the exact date of the vote remains undisclosed, sources indicate that a majority of the association’s members are prepared to participate, underscoring the severity of the situation.
Background on Chief Anthony Facchini
Appointed as Chief of Police in 2022, Anthony Facchini’s tenure has been marred by controversy. Prior to his promotion, Facchini served in various capacities within the department, but his leadership style has since come under intense scrutiny.
Allegations and Evidence of Incompetence
Several incidents have contributed to the growing perception of Chief Facchini’s incompetence:
• Court Hearing Recordings: Recently, audio recordings from court hearings have surfaced on social media platforms, allegedly highlighting Chief Facchini’s mishandling of critical cases. In these recordings, judges and attorneys reportedly express concerns over procedural errors and lapses in judgment under his command.
• Criminal Charges Against Journalist: In a controversial move, Chief Facchini filed criminal charges against an investigative journalist, Leroy Truth, over alleged cyberbullying, reportedly in response to memes posted about him. This action has raised concerns about freedom of the press and potential misuse of authority. At the same, Chief Facchini has pending criminal charges against him for harassment. Interesting how a police department has a Police Chief with pending criminal charges.
• Retaliation Against Detective Jeorge Habber: In December 2023, Detective Jeorge Habber reportedly faced retaliation after defending the constitutional rights of an investigative journalist. This incident has been cited as an example of punitive measures under Facchini’s leadership.
• Pattern of Retaliation: Multiple reports suggest a culture of retaliation within the department, with officers allegedly being transferred from their posts or shifts whenever Chief Facchini is displeased, leading to a climate of fear and instability.
• Conflict of Interest: Concerns have been raised regarding a potential conflict of interest, as Chief Facchini’s wife reportedly holds a supervisory position within the police department, raising questions about impartiality and ethics.
Political Allegations Involving Mayor Brian Stack
Further complicating matters are allegations that Chief Facchini has leveraged his position for political gain in favor of Mayor Brian Stack:
• Political Contributions: Chief Facchini has a history of making political contributions to Mayor Stack, raising concerns about a potential conflict of interest and the integrity of law enforcement.
• Participation in Political Events: He has been observed attending multiple political events favoring the mayor, which critics argue blurs the lines between law enforcement duties and political allegiance.
• Departmental Shift to Political Enforcement: These actions have reportedly sparked controversy within the police department, with some officers feeling that the agency has shifted focus from law enforcement to political enforcement.
Impact on Departmental Morale
Since Chief Facchini’s appointment, officer morale has reportedly declined. The alleged autocratic leadership style, instances of retaliation, dismissal of internal feedback, and perceived politicization of the department have fostered dissatisfaction among the ranks. The impending no-confidence vote reflects a collective call for change from within the department.
Community Response
Community leaders and residents have expressed concern over the department’s internal strife, emphasizing the need for transparent and effective policing. The public’s trust in law enforcement is at stake, prompting calls for accountability and reform.
Assembly Candidate Marco D. Navarro (LD 37) has publicly criticized the Chief Facchini in a statement release letter about the political unrest within the City of Union City and the Police Department. A posted video by Leroy Truth, brings into light of allegations of pending disciplinary action as political retaliation against Navarro (an employee of the City). Those records have been requested through Open Public Records Act and denied on multiple occasions. Sources state of pending court hearing and litigation against the City, the Chief and Mayor.

There has also been reports that Journalist Leroy Truth has mailed over 130 postcards to all members of the Union City Police Department conducting his own non-confidence vote against the chief of police. Sources claim these letters have not been received by the officers a may suggest that the chief of police is holding these letters hostage from being delivered to the officers.

Looking Ahead
The outcome of the no-confidence vote could have significant implications for the future leadership of the Union City Police Department. As the situation unfolds, both the department and the community await decisive actions to restore trust and ensure competent, impartial leadership.

BRIAN STACK IS NOT GOD-SENT — POLITICAL WORSHIP DOES NOT ERASE A JURY VERDICT
UNION CITY, NJ — The October 27 letter published by Hudson County View, portraying Mayor Brian Stack as some sort of God-sent savior, is one of the most ridiculous examples of political worship imaginable. It demonstrates just how dangerously blind political loyalty can become when supporters substitute personal admiration for facts, accountability, and independent thinking.
Let’s be clear: Brian Stack is an elected public servant, not a divine figure. He was elected to serve the people of Union City, not to be worshipped by them.
Yes, Stack has accomplished positive things for Union City. Yes, he has helped residents financially and improved neighborhoods. But since when does doing your job as an elected official make you a saint? Helping someone pay a bill does not erase misconduct, and residents should be encouraged toward financial independence rather than treating a politician as their personal financial savior.
What makes this letter particularly outrageous is the author’s apparent disregard for an actual court verdict.
On September 24, 2026, a Hudson County jury found Union City and its police department liable for discrimination against retired Police Officer Juan Estrella. More importantly, all eight jurors unanimously found Brian Stack and former Police Chief Nichelle Luster personally liable for aiding and abetting that discrimination. The jury awarded Estrella $853,000 in damages, with punitive damages proceedings still pending.
Read that again. Eight jurors. A unanimous finding of personal liability. An actual courtroom verdict.
Yet this letter suggests the accusations will somehow be exposed as fabricated through divine intervention. Perhaps the author should spend less time glorifying politicians and more time reading the actual reporting about what happened inside the courtroom.
This is no longer simply a matter of unproven accusations. A jury heard the evidence and reached a verdict. Whether subsequent legal proceedings change that outcome remains to be seen, but pretending the verdict never happened is an insult to the judicial process and the public’s intelligence.
The language in this letter is reminiscent of the personality cults surrounding political leaders in authoritarian countries, where public officials are portrayed as heroic saviors and criticism is treated almost like blasphemy.
That mentality has no place in American democracy.
The real concern isn’t whether Stack answers his telephone at midnight, pays someone’s overdue bill, or beautifies a city block. The concern is what happens behind the scenes of an administration when political influence, government authority, and accountability collide.
Residents can appreciate improvements to their city while simultaneously demanding answers about discrimination, misconduct, and abuses of authority. Those positions are not mutually exclusive.
Political loyalty should never require intellectual surrender.
Brian Stack is not above criticism, not above accountability, and certainly not above the law. No amount of glowing testimonials, religious comparisons, or political praise can erase what eight jurors concluded.
Union City does not need a political messiah. It needs independent thinkers, informed residents, transparent government, and elected officials who understand that public service is a responsibility, not a throne.
Stop worshipping politicians. Start holding them accountable. This letter is nothing more but attempts by Brian Stack to do major damage control over the verdict.
We have continuously seen this narcissistic behavior increased dramatically ever since the verdict. Brian Stack and his supporters mailed multiple letters in English in Spanish throughout the 33rd district about the verdict took three pages in a Hispanic newspaper to post his letters and held political rallies for himself in the name of supporting Hispanics. There is nothing more desperate of a presentation than Brian Stack‘s own attempts to damage control in the past couple weeks.

NJ ATTORNEY GENERAL FINDS NO WRONGDOING FOR TWO UNION CITY POLICE OFFICERS. THE CITY CONTINUES RETALIATION
UNION CITY, NJ — How long will the Union City Police Department continue to sideline two officers after the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office reportedly found no wrongdoing?
Detective Jorge Haber and Officer David Tafur have reportedly spent over a year on modified duty, assigned to dispatch rather than their regular law enforcement responsibilities, following allegations that confidential police body-camera footage and political information were leaked to investigative journalist Leroy Truth, known for exposing corruption in Union City.
The investigation reportedly included the seizure of both officers’ personal cell phones pursuant to a warrant. Yet, according to information provided to this publication, the Attorney General’s Office concluded just couple months ago that neither officer engaged in wrongdoing.
So why are they still being punished through continued modified-duty assignments?
The matter has reportedly returned to the Union City Police Department’s Internal Affairs Unit, where Chief Walter Laurencio and department leadership have yet to restore the officers to regular duty. The continued delay also raises concerns about Detective Haber’s future promotional opportunities, in which currently, Det. Haber is placed on the Sgt promotional list.
The political implications are especially troubling. Both officers have reportedly been viewed as political opponents of Mayor Brian Stack.
Even more concerning, Officer Tafur recently testified against Stack in a racial discrimination lawsuit brought by a retired Union City police officer. According to judicial records and the verdict by the Jury, Stack and a former police chief were found liable in both their official and individual capacities.
The question is unavoidable: Is Union City conducting a legitimate administrative review, or using Internal Affairs and modified-duty assignments as instruments of political retaliation?
If the Attorney General’s Office found no wrongdoing, Chief Laurencio and Mayor Stack owe the public an explanation for why these officers remain sidelined.
An officer’s political views or testimony against City leadership should never determine that officer’s career opportunities.
Union City residents deserve accountability—not a police department where political loyalty appears to matter more than fairness, due process, and professional integrity.

Alcalde. Director de Seguridad Pública. Senador estatal. Presidente del Comité Judicial del Senado. Líder político de Union City First.
“Me equivoqué”.
Stack firmó su carta:
“Tu amigo”.
