BOMBSHELL ALLEGATION: HUDSON COUNTY EXECUTIVE CRAIG GUY ACCUSED OF ATTEMPTING TO STOP JOURNALIST LEROY TRUTH FROM INVESTIGATING SENATOR BRIAN STACK

HUDSON COUNTY, NJ — Explosive allegations have emerged implicating Hudson County Executive Craig Guy in a covert attempt to interfere with an ongoing independent investigation by journalist Leroy Truth into alleged political corruption by longtime Union City Mayor and State Senator Brian Stack.

The claims originate from Joe Blaettler, a retired law enforcement officer and campaign manager for anti-corruption candidates Tony Hector and Frank Alonso. According to Blaettler, he was approached by Executive Craig Guy on March 24, 2024, for a secret, private meeting during which Guy allegedly attempted to leverage Blaettler’s assumed connection to journalist Leroy Truth to shut down the investigation.

Hudson County Executive Craig Guy personally asked Joe Blaettler to meet and suggest approaching Leroy to ask:

“Is there something we can do for Leroy Truth to make him stop.”

This meeting took place three months after Truth launched an independent investigation into the political and financial dealings of Senator Stack — an investigation that has since produced multiple leads on alleged abuses of office, patronage, and improper influence over municipal contracts.

Potential Legal Violations

If confirmed, the conduct described could constitute serious violations of both New Jersey and federal law, including:

N.J.S.A. 2C:30-2 – Official Misconduct Criminalizes a public official’s abuse of office to benefit themselves or another by unlawful means. N.J.S.A. 2C:27-2 – Bribery in Official and Political Matters Applies when someone directly or indirectly offers any benefit to influence a public servant or, in this case, potentially to obstruct a journalist. 18 U.S. Code § 241 – Conspiracy Against Rights Federal statute prohibiting two or more persons from conspiring to injure, oppress, threaten, or intimidate someone in the free exercise of constitutional rights — including freedom of the press. 18 U.S. Code § 1512(b) – Witness Tampering and Obstruction Makes it a crime to knowingly use intimidation or corrupt persuasion to prevent the communication of information to law enforcement or other federal officials.

The previous citation of 18 U.S. Code § 1505 (obstruction of proceedings) is generally tied to interference with federal agency or congressional investigations and may be less applicable unless a formal federal proceeding was underway. Similarly, 42 U.S. Code § 1983 (civil rights violations) could be invoked if Leroy Truth chooses to file a civil action for violation of his First Amendment rights under color of law.

Political Fallout Begins

These allegations, if substantiated, could have far-reaching implications for both Guy and Stack — two of the most powerful Democratic figures in Hudson County politics.

While neither Craig Guy nor Brian Stack has yet issued a formal response, growing pressure from activists, watchdog groups, and opposing campaigns has fueled calls for a full investigation by the FBI, the New Jersey Attorney General, and the U.S. Department of Justice’s Public Integrity Section.

“The people of New Jersey deserve answers,” said candidate Tony Hector in a statement. “Attempting to bribe or silence a journalist isn’t just corrupt — it’s criminal.”

Meanwhile, Leroy Truth has not backed down from his reporting and has vowed to continue pressing forward.

“This is bigger than politics,” Truth said on social media. “This is about defending the Constitution, the First Amendment, and the right of the public to know what their leaders are doing behind closed doors.”

Public Reaction & Ongoing Investigation

As the story unfolds, the public is being urged to come forward with any information regarding the alleged misconduct by county officials.

With federal attention increasingly focused on political corruption in New Jersey, the allegations against Guy and Stack may mark the start of a much broader investigation into the inner workings of Hudson County politics.

“They tried to silence the truth,” Truth wrote in a post. “But they only made it louder.”
