In a rare show of support, long time Democrat turned Republican, Hudson County Sheriff Frank Schillari—one of the longest-serving and most respected law enforcement leaders in New Jersey—has officially endorsed Republican State Assembly nominee Marco Navarro in the 37th Legislative District.

Sheriff Schillari, who has built a decades-long career dedicated to public safety, praised Navarro’s commitment to first responders and his proven record of service to the community. “Marco understands the sacrifices made by law enforcement, EMS, and fire services because he has lived it,” Schillari stated. “He’s not just talking about supporting first responders—he’s been one of them.”

Navarro, a former U.S. Marine, a current EMT in Hudson County, one of New Jersey’s busiest 911 systems, and now a newly graduated firefighter, has spent his life in service to others. His campaign has emphasized public safety, government accountability, and bringing practical, real-world experience to Trenton.

“I am humbled to receive Sheriff Schillari’s endorsement,” Navarro said. “This is not just an honor—it’s a call to action. I will fight every day for the men and women in law enforcement, EMS, and the fire service who risk everything to keep our communities safe. I know their challenges because I have been in their boots.”

Navarro’s candidacy marks a significant moment for the 37th District, which has not elected a Republican to the State Assembly since the 1970s. His platform focuses on strengthening public safety resources, improving support for first responders, and ensuring that government works for the people—not entrenched political interests.

With Sheriff Schillari’s endorsement, Navarro’s campaign along with his running mate, Andrew Meehan, gains a major boost from one of the most influential voices in New Jersey law enforcement, reinforcing his image as a candidate who understands both the operational realities of public safety and the legislative changes needed to protect communities statewide.

As Election Day draws closer, Navarro says he will continue to meet with residents, listen to their concerns, and fight to bring real change to Trenton. “Public service is about protecting, serving, and standing up for what’s right,” he said. “That’s exactly what I will do as your Assemblyman.”
