North Bergen residents are watching a disturbing situation unfold inside their police department, and many are asking the same question: how did a professional law-enforcement agency become the center of what appears to be an internal power struggle?

While Police Chief Robert Farley faced public allegations in early 2025, a growing number of voices in the community are now raising serious concerns about Deputy Chief David Corbisiero and the role he is alleged by some to have played behind the scenes. Claims circulating within the township accuse Deputy Chief David Corbisiero of orchestrating, leaking or fueling damaging narratives about current Chief Farley during a critical moment for the department — accusations that have reportedly triggered scrutiny serious enough to involve outside investigators.

If even a fraction of these concerns proves accurate, the implications are alarming. It is alleged the deputy Chief’s motivation is to seek the termination or forced retirement of Chief Farley, to fulfill his own ambition to become the next Chief of North Bergen Police.

Law enforcement leadership is supposed to be built on trust, loyalty to due process, and a commitment to protecting the integrity of the badge — not personal ambition. The mere perception that Deputy Chief David Corbisiero could be connected to internal political maneuvering has shaken confidence among residents who expect professionalism, not power plays.

Supporters of Chief Farley argue that what is unfolding looks less like accountability and more like a campaign of pressure at a time when fairness and restraint should be guiding every decision. They believe that targeting a sitting chief through media narratives — whether directly or indirectly — creates a toxic environment that damages the entire department.

Deputy Chief David Corbisiero is allegedly currently being investigated as the person responsible, and the ongoing investigation must follow the facts wherever they lead. But the outrage from many in the community is unmistakable. Residents are openly questioning what kind of leadership philosophy is being displayed when internal disputes spill into the public arena and reflects similar political controversies as the Union City Police.

The concern is simple: if a deputy chief is perceived as willing to engage in aggressive internal politics and create a leadership crisis, what message does that send about the future direction of the department?

North Bergen cannot afford instability at the top of its police force. While Township Board of Commissioners and Mayor Nick Sacco, stand strong behind Chief Farley, they must take these allegations seriously, ensure full transparency, and make it clear that leadership positions are earned through integrity — not controversy.

The community deserves a police department focused on service, not internal ambition. Until the investigation concludes, one thing is certain: public trust will not be restored through silence or political maneuvering. It will only come through accountability, transparency, and leadership that places the department above personal advancement.

Deputy Chief CORBISIERO has lost the trust of fellow officers, township officials and the North Bergen Community. A resignation of the Deputy Chief would be start to rebuild the trust for the North Bergen Police Department.

UPDATE: 2/21/2026: In light of these allegations, according to insiders, Deputy Chief Corbisiero has filed for his retirement effective March 1st. 2026.
