AG’s Office Investigating Officer-Involved Shooting in Jersey City
October 21, 2025
The office of the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office (AG) has opened an investigation into a police-involved shooting that left a suspect dead, according to a statement by Steven Fulop, Mayor of Jersey City.
Last night, units from the Jersey City Police Department (JCPD) Street Crimes Unit were operating near the intersection of Ege Avenue and Bergen Avenue when officers observed a person acting suspiciously and noted what appeared to be a bulge in the individual’s clothing — consistent with the possibility of a concealed firearm.
According to the mayor’s post on the social-media platform X, when officers approached the individual, the person opened fire on a JCPD officer, who returned fire. The suspect was struck and later pronounced dead at the hospital. A firearm was reportedly recovered at the scene.
Mayor Fulop said JCPD’s Internal Affairs Unit and the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office had secured the scene, and from now on the AG’s Office will lead the investigation. He urged anyone with information to contact the Attorney General’s Office directly.
At this time, the AG’s Office has not released further details. HUDTRUTH will update this story as additional information becomes available.

Whether body-camera or other audio/video recordings exist or have been released.
Context & significance
Officer-involved shootings are subject to review by the Attorney General in New Jersey in many cases, as part of efforts to ensure oversight and accountability. That the AG’s Office is taking the lead in this matter suggests that the incident will undergo a full independent review. For the community in Jersey City — and especially the neighborhood around Ege Avenue and Bergen Avenue — such incidents naturally raise concerns about policing, public safety, and transparency.
Mayor Fulop’s prompt communication indicates city officials’ awareness of the seriousness of the event. However, given the limited publicly released detail so far, community members may be left seeking more information.
HUDTRUTH will monitor updates including:
Any release of additional facts by the AG’s Office or JCPD Whether the incident is recorded on body-worn camera or dash-cam footage and if that footage will be released. Official statements regarding officer injuries or status. Any public comment from the suspect’s family or legal representatives. The broader implications for policing policy in Jersey City, including how this event fits into ongoing crime-prevention efforts or community-police relations.
If you have tips or additional information about this incident, you may reach out to the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office as the mayor’s message suggests. We will inform HUDTRUTH readers as soon as more verifiable details become available.
