HUDSON COUNTY, N.J. — Orlando Miranda, a decorated U.S. Army veteran and longtime Hudson County community leader, has been appointed Undersheriff of Hudson County, according to an internal memorandum circulated within the Hudson County Sheriff’s Office.

The memo indicates that the appointment was made by Jimmy Davis, Hudson County’s newly elected sheriff, and that Miranda will be assigned to oversee Court Operations, a critical division responsible for courthouse security, prisoner movement, and judicial support functions throughout the county.

Military and Public Service Background

Miranda is a retired U.S. Army Sergeant First Class with nearly two decades of service. He served with the 1st Cavalry Division, 2-8 Cavalry, completing multiple overseas deployments, including two combat tours in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and a deployment to Bosnia under Operation Joint Forge.

During his military career, Miranda received numerous commendations, including multiple Army Commendation Medals, Army Achievement Medals, and the NATO Medal, among others, reflecting sustained leadership and operational experience in complex environments.

A resident of Kearny, New Jersey, Miranda has remained active in veterans’ advocacy and civic life following his retirement from the Army. He is widely known in the region for his leadership in veteran-focused organizations and for promoting access to services for Latino and immigrant veterans.

Community Leadership and Recognition

In addition to his military service, Miranda has played a visible role in Hudson County’s veteran community. He has held leadership positions in several nonprofit and advocacy organizations and has participated in county-wide initiatives related to veterans’ outreach, food insecurity, and public awareness.

His service has previously been recognized by local government, including formal proclamations honoring his contributions to both veterans and the broader community.

Role as Undersheriff

According to the internal memo, Miranda’s role as Undersheriff will focus on Court Operations, an assignment that places him in charge of one of the Sheriff’s Office’s most sensitive and operationally demanding areas. Court Operations typically include courthouse security, coordination with judges and court administrators, and ensuring the safe transport and custody of detainees.

The Hudson County Sheriff’s Office has not yet issued a public press release formally announcing the appointment. As of publication, the information is based on internal documentation reviewed by this outlet.

Transition Under New Leadership

Sheriff Davis has begun assembling his command staff as part of a broader transition within the Sheriff’s Office following his assumption of office. Miranda’s appointment signals an emphasis on military leadership experience, operational discipline, and community engagement within the agency’s upper ranks.

Requests for official comment from the Hudson County Sheriff’s Office regarding the appointment and scope of responsibilities were not immediately returned.
